Favorite photos. And a prize, too!
A recent review of my flickr images sparked a question: what are my favorite images?
If I had to choose just five, which ones would I choose? And why?
Don't you wish (like me) that you could ask your favorite photographers this same question?
Sometimes photographer's favorite images aren't the ones that others love, or that the photographer is famous for. Sometimes photos evoke memories or capture the spirit of the photographer.
And what about some of your favorite bloggers?
What five photos of their own would they choose?
Kind of like a meme, I'm tagging a couple of my favorite bloggers with this question: Looking through your photostream, what images are your favorites (and why)? Feel free to ask your favorite bloggers/photographers this question, too...
Megan at The Scent of Water.
Siri at Knitting Iris.
Grace at Uncommon Grace.
And I pose this question to you, wonderful blog reader: what photos of mine are your favorites?
For the next few days, I'll go through some of my favorite photos with either a story about its creation or an explanation of why I like it.
Oh yeah, there is a prize involved, too. I will choose one winner from the comments of this post. The prize? Your choice of photo print, sock yarn, some of my selfish raw linen, and an embroidery book (there might be a few other treats, as well)! Just leave a comment on this post by Saturday, November 17th and I will choose a winner...

Darn, I missed the contest! Ah, but I love your photography; you somehow capture so much in your pictures, feelings, moments, longings. Very hard to chose a favorite one. I have the same problem with my own photos, don't think I could just pick five, but maybe that's exactly what I should try and do. Bit like life: give me too many choices and I feel overwhelmed and have a hard time focusing. One things I know though, when it comes to photos, is that I am attracted by color, so your rose is definitely a favorite, as are the blue socks. But I love the others to, oh my ...

Lots of your images do it for me . . . Radishes remind me of my garden, Deviled Eggs just make me happy, Too Many Books is a luscious scene, Jack Creek's Watercolors pops and is soothing at once. But my favorite is Brotherly Love -- that's the one that brought the biggest smile to my face. I have a boy and a girl, too. Just today I took a picture of them kissing. That sibling love melts my heart. Glad you can witness it too, mama. Best xo Nancy

I love your 'orange' photo and also 'almost a butterfly'. You always have this wonderful quiet simplicity about your photos. Reminds me of Lao Tzu.

Definitely this one :

The light is wonderful, drawing you into the picture, warm and soft and lovely and then you notice the dark, rather ominous background. It's a picture you can look at for a long time. I love the sheltered feeling of the foreground, the houses peeking above the grasses, but there is this mystery and danger brewing further on...love the visual juxtaposition of both feelings.

If forced to choose, I'd say this one is my favorite, although I've forgotten to add it to My Faves on flickr, until now: http://www.flickr.com/photos/berlinswhimsy/1593305897/in/set-72157600293354649/
Do you know if it's a white poplar, with their pretty fall color in the fall and fuzzy white contrasting undersides to the leaves?
What I love about your pictures is that we seem to notice and appreciate similar things, but that your pictures look at those things from your own perspective...in a way that makes me see things in a different way. That goes for your writing as well. Your posts make me see things and think about things in new ways.

I love your clothesline photos. They instantly bring to mind the smell of freshly dried sheets and the way the clothes flap in the breeze. I miss the sunny backyard of my old home!

Hi Amber!
I'd have to say that I love your photos of food and nature. From the picture of the apple turnover to the simplicity in the world around you.
Even though you have been going through some strife, your photos are so comforting.
Hugs,
Jolene

I love the photo of the two children together, the world a blurred golden field around them. And I love the lines in the twisted metal. Fantastic. Blogs are such a great medium for sharing passions using multiple media. I don't know why some bloggers don't post more photos.

I love this---it's interesting to learn what pictures others like. Some of them, I forgot about, too!

While a prize is highly motivational and reason enough to join a contest, I look forward to hearing your narratives behind some of your favorite photos. I've always enjoyed your photography, and I look forward to your comments to go along with some of the pictures.

I too love your rustic photos, especially Fall Slanted Light http://flickr.com/photos/berlinswhimsy/1593305749/in/set-72157600293241093/
which I'll admit evokes my own memories of a road outside of Cleveland WA that I like a lot.
I also love the photos of your daughter in her red coat!

Hard to decide; I have several favorites:
1. Sun-baked Cushions (because it looks like rusted metal, and then to find out it's something soft...I like the juxtaposition.)
2. Linen Clouds 2 (just beautiful)
3. Juniper and Old Car (I can almost smell it...)
4. Wood is Good (I agree!)
5. Swim Season's Over (great photo, great title)
It was fun to go back through all your flickr photos; I'd never seen most of them!

One of the pictures that really caught my attention is the one labeled "Our Beach"
You captured such a peaceful moment that just looking at it made my hectic workday world disappear and made me remember what is really inmportant.

One of our closest friends is a photographer. http://www.flickr.com/photos/gbmcinephoto It is always interesting to me to see what he, the quasi-professional, is happiest with.

The mosiac you created is wonderful. It definitely evokes feeling as well as provides a glimpse of life. All your photos are beautiful :)
