Expressing Gratitude.
Probably because of my love of writing, I tend to express myself in written form best. I also love handwriting. What better use of handwriting than to write up notes of gratitude. I believe in feedback, especially of the positive kind. That said, I'm also guilty of putting off thanks until it slips from my mind into a well of guilt. I'm getting better, however.
I especially like to write up little notes of gratitude for things that others do that have positively affected my life or the lives of my loved ones-----things that they might not even consider extraordinary.
I wrote a few of those notes lately. One of them was to the bank representative that made an extra special effort to assist me with opening up my own accounts while discussing the complications of divorce on my finances. She talked with me about her own experience with divorce and had some very helpful advice. I walked away feeling thankful for meeting with her. Thankful for her openness.
I was also thankful for my son's teacher who went out of his way to drive my son home after a field trip and scheduling snafu. My son, initially weary and sad, arrived home in better spirits thanks to this awesome teacher and his never-ending giving nature that he extends not only to my kids, but all of his students.
Though it is often the nature of giving people to only humbly accept recognition, I hope that little notes of gratitude still touch their hearts and provide a bit of encouragement.
