This is the beginning of an appropriately (if not unimaginatively) entitled series called, 'I like.'
The series features little gadgets and techniques I use and like. A forewarning, I am a gadget guru-----when I enter a kitchen supply store, my eyes dart to the kitchen tool section first. Good, sharp knives are my trusted friends. I also swoon over gadgets that make good sense and I often find myself wondering, "Why didn't I think of that?!"
First up in the series is a little gadget that seemed fairly superfluous at first but quickly found its way into my hand over and over again. It's my serrated peeler. It's billed as a soft-skin peeler for the likes of tomatoes and peppers. And yes, it works wonderfully for this purpose, but seriously, how often does one peel a tomato or a pepper? Instead, I find it very useful for the normal tasks a peeler is called into duty to perform. Because of its serration, it doesn't slip, it doesn't hesitate or clog up up as readily as a typical peeler, and it doesn't dink around. I use it often for potatoes, asparagus, mangoes, and cucumbers.
No, it's not a required kitchen tool, but I like it!!
