My son graduated from 8th grade yesterday. Big sigh. It was a wonderfully sweet ceremony with the principal speaking to each of the 15 graduate's talents and personalities. She praised my son's writing abilities---- a talent that follows him wherever he goes, it seems. They each received a memory book with photos from their years at the school.
The school is so small that each student makes up the overall dynamic, so I'm sure the staff will feel the absence of these great kids. I enjoyed seeing the pride on both the kids' and the teacher's faces---- which, I believe is the best outcome of a good education: teamwork between student and teacher. Learning together.
Besides sweet---- as in heartwarming---- the night could be entitled sweet, as in sugar! There was a big cake with the names of each of the students written on thick, red-frosting stars.
My son ate his as I cringed nearby!
We went out for frozen yogurt afterward and my kids topped theirs with Lucky Charms, Skittles, and many other sugary treats. You only graduate from 8th grade once, right?!
So, now I have a high school freshman! Crazy how fast time slips by...
