Our days open and close ever more emphatically, hastily counting down the onset of another school year.
I find my kids peering off into space these days, pondering the upcoming year of school; pondering the new possibilities; melancholy over the impending changes.
I look at my son and find it difficult to grasp his increasing age---- A 13-year old 8th grader----made even more peculiar by my pronounced memories of my own 8th grade year, only moments ago....
And I look at him and I wonder what he truly is thinking, this boy who wonders what quantum physics are yet still adheres to the novelties of childhood. And while I'm there pondering, too, I remind myself that if I'm not truly aware, I'll look up one of these mornings to the closing of my son's 8th grade year, in a blink of another day's closing.
