After my college courses were done, I didn't have much time to dawdle. I had a priority list of gifts and craft projects to finish before the holiday (and still do!). I'll share some of them here in the coming days.
A couple weeks ago on our family night, we discussed the gifts my kids would make and give to others. One of the gifts on the list was homemade marshmallows with a packet of hot chocolate.
I haven't made marshmallows before and it was quite a fun experience! They taste very similar to the store-bought variety but their perfect charm lends itself well to the inviting warmth of a cup of hot chocolate, eggnog, or even coffee! When added to a cup of sweet warmth, the marshmallows melt every so slowly, turning into something more scrumptious than can be described. Their melting charm forced my apologies for any complaints I made during their messy preparation (for they are messy, no doubt)!
I used the homemade marshmallow recipe in the book, Jam It, Pickle it, Cure It----a great go-to book for making gifts from the kitchen!
This recipe at Martha Stewart's site looks very similar...
